Setting up on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV
Apple does not allow installers from outside the App Store, so the approach is different. You choose a player from the store and hand it your subscription details.
- iOS or tvOS 14 or newer
- Your Xtream details or M3U link
- An App Store player that accepts external playlists
The steps
Install a player#1
Search the App Store for an IPTV player that accepts Xtream Codes or an M3U playlist. Several are free with an optional paid unlock. None of them include channels, so any listing that claims to is not what you want.
Add your subscription#2
Open the player and add a new playlist or profile. Enter the server address, username and password from your account page. iOS will try to capitalise the first character of each field, so turn off auto-capitalisation in Settings, General, Keyboard before you type, or correct it by hand afterwards.
Set up the Apple TV separately#3
An Apple TV needs its own copy of the player, installed from the tvOS App Store. Some players sync a profile across your devices through iCloud, and where that works it saves entering long strings with the Siri remote. Where it does not, enter the details once on the Apple TV and they persist.
Choose how to send it to the television#4
AirPlay from an iPhone works but adds a second wireless hop and is the usual reason a stream that looks perfect on the handset stutters on the television. A player running natively on the Apple TV gives a noticeably steadier picture.
- iOS Low Data Mode limits background network use and can interrupt playback. Check it is off for the network you are using in Wi-Fi settings.
- Private Relay on an iCloud+ account routes traffic through Apple and occasionally interferes with streaming. If playback is unreliable only on Apple devices, turn it off for one evening as a test.
- The Siri remote is a poor tool for long passwords. Use the Apple TV Remote in the iPhone Control Centre and type on the phone keyboard instead.
Open the same login on a phone using mobile data. Playback there means the subscription is healthy and the problem is this device or your network, which is exactly the sentence to put in a message to support along with your order number.
Reading this before you have a subscription?
That is the sensible order. The steps above are the whole of what setup involves on this device, so you can judge in advance whether the hardware you own will cope. Activation itself is automatic and takes about two minutes.
