Setting up on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS televisions

No sideloading and no extra hardware. Both platforms have suitable players in their own stores, though the televisions themselves are the slowest devices we support.

Before you start
  • A Samsung or LG set from 2017 onwards
  • Your M3U link or Xtream details
  • A little patience during the first load

The steps

Install a player from the TV store#1

Samsung sets keep their software under Apps and LG sets under Content Store. Search either one for a player that reads Xtream or M3U, and install whichever result has the most reviews. Every one of them ships empty, so an install that looks like nothing happened is an install that worked.

Note the device key#2

Many television players open on a screen showing a MAC address or a device key, and stay locked until that key has been entered on the site run by whoever wrote the player. Copy the characters down exactly and finish that registration before you go any further. Skip it and the app later sits on an empty list, which reads like a fault in the subscription when it is nothing of the sort.

Add the playlist#3

Choose to add a playlist or a profile, then enter your details. Where the player offers both, pick Xtream Codes over M3U so that the programme guide comes through. Type carefully, since a television keyboard is the easiest place in the world to introduce a typing mistake.

Wait out the first build#4

The processor in a television is modest, and the first channel list can take two to four minutes to appear. Do not restart the app while it is working. If it is still blank after five minutes, the device key from step two has usually not been registered.

Trim the list#5

Once it loads, hide the groups you will never open. On a television this is not cosmetic. A shorter list is what stops the app freezing when you scroll, and it is the single most effective change you can make on this platform.

Worth knowing on this platform
  • Sets made before 2017 struggle badly with large lists. A cheap streaming stick in a spare HDMI socket gives a far better result than fighting the television, and costs less than the time spent trying.
  • Samsung sets sold in some regions block certain player apps by store region. If the search returns nothing at all, that is why, and a plug-in device is the practical answer.
  • Turn off any motion smoothing or noise reduction the television applies. Those settings add processing delay and can make live sport look worse rather than better.
  • If the app disappears after a television software update, reinstall it and your profile usually returns intact.
If it still will not play

Open the same login on a phone using mobile data. Playback there means the subscription is healthy and the problem is this device or your network, which is exactly the sentence to put in a message to support along with your order number.

Reading this before you have a subscription?

That is the sensible order. The steps above are the whole of what setup involves on this device, so you can judge in advance whether the hardware you own will cope. Activation itself is automatic and takes about two minutes.
